Frequently Asked Questions

How soon will my order ship?

Your order will ship out in 1-2 business days. If you place an order on the weekend, it will ship on the next business day. You will receive an email with your tracking information to let you know it’s on its way, and you can also track your order directly at this page.

What shipping options do you offer?

You can choose USPS Priority Mail (2-3 business days) or USPS Ground Select (2-8 business days).  We don’t charge a handling fee, and all shipping is flat rate no matter how many patterns your order: $4.99 per package for USPS ground select, and $7.99 per package for USPS priority mail.  You will receive an email with tracking information when your package ships, and you can also track your order directly at this page for your convenience.  If you need a pattern sooner than Priority Mail shipping, you can choose our digital patterns which you can print at home instantly.

Do you ship internationally?

While we don’t ship physical patterns outside the USA at this time, you can purchase our digital patterns and print them in the comfort of your home from anywhere in the world.  These patterns can be printed on A4 or US Letter (8.5″x11″) paper on a regular home printer.

How do I indicate which pattern size I want to purchase?

No worries! All sizes come in the same envelope (or digital pattern file). Because our physical patterns are printed on sturdy paper, they will last for years to come in case you want to use a different size down the road.  We use standard U.S. pattern sizing, in pattern sizes 6-20.  (This is the equivalent of US off-the-rack dress sizes 0-14.)

How do I download a digital pattern?

When you complete your order the file will be available at the bottom of that page.  You will also receive the digital pattern to your email inbox within 1 hour from when the transaction was completed. Be sure to check your spam folder if you do not see it. If you’re still not able to download, email info@edelweisspatterns.com with your order number and we will email you the digital file within 24 hours during weekdays, or on the next business day if it’s a weekend.

What does my skill level need to be to sew Edelweiss Patterns designs?

These patterns will be most suited to intermediate seamstresses and above. However, we’ve had beginners sew our dresses with good results as well.  If you’re new to sewing, we recommend avoiding slippery materials. Choose a cotton voile or batiste for your sheer material, rather than chiffon or lace, and you’ll automatically have an easier sewing experience!

Can you offer sewing advice if I have a question?

We are always happy to answer questions while you’re making a dress from our patterns! We are not able to offer sewing advice for unrelated projects.

Do your patterns contain seam allowances?

Yes, all our patterns have the seam allowances already included. All seam allowances are 5/8” unless otherwise noted in the instructions.

How can I have my dress pictures featured on your website?

We are delighted to see what you’ve sewn with Edelweiss Patterns designs! Please send to info@edelweisspatterns.com . We feature photographs in the “Customer Photos” section, blog, and social media.

Can I sell the dresses I make from your patterns?

No. Edelweiss Patterns designs are copyrighted and may only be used for personal home sewing and theatrical productions. You are welcome to take our patterns to a local seamstress of your choice to make a dress up for you, but you cannot advertise finished products from Edelweiss Patterns designs for your business or list dresses made from our patterns for sale online or in physical stores. By purchasing our patterns you agree to these terms of sale.

Can I use a photo from your website?

No, not without written permission.   Please email info@edelweisspatterns.com if you need to use an image from our site for a specific purpose such as an article or review. If you only need to use an image of a pattern cover, you may use that on a blog or social media channel so long as you do not alter the image, and also give an appropriate credit link to www.edelweisspatterns.com Thank you so much.

Do you have a pattern tester’s program?

Yes, our Pattern Testers’ Society sews sample garments for upcoming pattern designs. Our pattern testers receive a free digital pattern in exchange for testing the garment fit in their specific size. Pattern testers must:

1. Be one of the standard pattern sizes (6-20). 2. Be an intermediate sewer or above. 3. Already have sewn a dress from an Edelweiss Patterns design.

If you think you would be a good fit for this program, please visit our Pattern Testers’ Society page. Thank you for your interest!

Do you loan out your finished costumes from your blog for display in museums?

Yes, on occasion we loan our costumes out.  Please use our Contact Form with the name of your museum and which costume you are interested in (Scarlett O’Hara Ballgown, Liesl’s Dancing Dress, Anne of Avonlea gown, etc.)

Can we use your patterns for a documentary or film?

Yes, but we kindly ask that an appropriate design credit is listed for Edelweiss Patterns in the credit section.  (i.e. “Liesl’s Dress reproduction designed by www.edelweisspatterns.com and sewn by [name of costumer].”)  Please contact us if you plan to use any of our designs on film. Thank you!

  1. Hello I have just read your very helpful explanation on how to stick swarovski stones . Just wondering if it’s OK to use the glue backed stones on lycra? For my sons latin ballroom shirt? Thank you Katie

    1. Hello, Katie,

I would be more inclined to use a non-heat based glue (such as Gem-Tac) to apply the Swarovski crystals. If you do want to use the hot fix stones with the heat tool, I would test it first on an inconspicuous area – you could even test it on the interior seam of the garment if need be.

      Hope this helps!
