If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you will probably remember the hand sewn Regency ballgown I made to wear to the Grand Regency ball at the Jane Austen Festival in late 2013. (You can read all about how I sewed this garment here.) Much to my surprise, this gown has now made it into the top five finalists in Threads Magazine’s nation-wide sewing competition! The judges selected the five top entries, but the final winner will be the result of which garment receives the most votes online at this page. So would you mind taking a minute to hop over to the Threads Magazine website and voting for my pink Regency gown? (Or whichever one is your favorite.) Thank you!
Thank you all so much!
Happy sewing,
Katrina
I still can’t get over how stunning this gown is!! And you hand sewed the whole thing
Thank you so much, Samantha!! It came together in so many small “baby steps” of sewing that once it was finished I was kind of surprised with how it looked all put together!
Happy sewing!

Done. And even without prejudice, it’s the loveliest dress of the lot.
That is absolutely gorgeous and WELL worth being nominated. I just jumped into the blog-world of sewing blogs and I can’t get back out. Especially the retro patterns are calling my name **echo echo echo….**
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely and inspirational work. Now I am off to keep drooling, er, looking through your blog for more inspiration!!!
Thank you, Susan! What about with “Pride & Prejudice”? 😉 Ha ha! 🙂
Kathie, I’m so glad you are enjoying the blog! Thank you for your kind words. Yes, retro patterns are SO much fun to sew, and I’m extremely thankful that the Big Four pattern companies are releasing so many of them nowadays!
Happy sewing!

wow you look like you should be on the titantic! You look like Kate Winslet. Beautiful. I’m thinking about doing a first communion dress for my daughter. If I was going to venture what fabrics should I use that are low sheen but easy to sew. I’ve sewn clothes and costumes before but never anything this special. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello, Lynn,
Thank you so much for your kind words! I *do* love dressing up in Regency era!
As far as a first communion dress goes, there are many easy-to-use, heirloom quality materials on the market! I would recommend doing a Google search for the Martha Pullen webstore, as they have a plethora of batistes, linens, piques, and voiles that would all work marvelously well for those purposes.
Hope this helps!
Happy sewing,
Katrina
