Edelweiss Patterns began in 2010 and provides sewing patterns inspired by classic cinema to home seamstresses and theatrical costumers alike. We hope to help you create your favorite dress in your closet. Inspired by fashions of the 1940s and 1950s, our designs are printed in the U.S.A. and contain all pattern sizes 6-20 in one envelope. Each of our patterns is available in paper form which ships directly to you, or as a digital file which you can download and print at home instantly. Because the most beautiful dress in your closet might still be waiting to be sewn…
About the Designer
Katrina Holte has a life-long love for all things old and elegant. She received her technical training at a sewing school founded by a McCalls Patterns designer, and later took historical costuming study trips to England. Her work has been featured in Threads Magazine and Vogue Patterns Magazine, and she was a top-five finalist in the 2013 Threads sewing competition. Katrina has created costumes for stage productions around the world, and has sewn a custom dress for a royal family member. She’s been sewing for over 20 years and has recreated costumes inspired by A Man Called Peter, Anne of Avonlea, Gone with the Wind, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Sound of Music, White Christmas, and Pride & Prejudice which are documented on the Edelweiss Patterns blog. These days she continues to design new patterns, and sews every-day dresses for herself from her larger-than-she’d-like-to-admit collection of 1950s sewing patterns. They hang color-coordinated in her closet. Thankfully, her husband understands. (See below.)
Katrina met her husband Lars at a historical costume ball while wearing her Scarlett O’Hara ballgown on a summer evening, where he asked a perfect stranger for the first dance. (This was not typical for him). One year later they were married in a historic chapel, and danced “The Laendler” waltz from The Sound of Music at their wedding reception. (The First Dance video is here.)
They are kindred spirits, and Lars, (a software engineer), assists with the technical side of Edelweiss Patterns. Nine years later, they’ve tackled many business & family projects together, visited Canada, England, and Israel, and attended afternoon teas at a dozen hotels and tea rooms. Katrina is a Jewish Christian.
