I’m delighted to share these lovely photographs of Gianna, who sewed this frock from our Liesl’s Dancing Dress Pattern and graciously allowed me to post them here!
Gianna sewed her gorgeous Liesl dress using two layers of chiffon in the sleeves instead of one, and lined the sheer yoke for additional coverage. The effect is so dreamy, and she truly looks like a princess!
Gianna writes, “It is probably my favorite dress now, not only because I made it but because it is just the kind of dress that every girl dreams about. I wore it to a contra dance and the skirt was just amazing!”
(As someone who attended many swing dances and English country/contra dances in my 20s, I can concur that you will have the most beautiful dress on the dance floor if you sew it yourself! There’s a certain wonderful sort of dress you end up with when you use high quality fabrics and a vintage inspired pattern that is historically accurate. One evening I met my husband at a dance while wearing a dress I’d sewn myself, so you never know if an outfit you create may go down in your personal fashion history. 😉)
The craftmanship on this dress is impeccable, right down to the lettuce hem edge on the skirt. It’s such beautiful work, perfectly sewn and fitted. I am thoroughly impressed! Gianna has a bright sewing future ahead… I’m over here giving her a round of applause!
I’m always inspired to see the dresses made from our patterns, and I can only hope they bring as much joy to everyone who wears them as they have to me over the years. I’m telling you, ladies, if you’ve never worn a vintage dress before, prepare to feel lovely on an entirely new level. Modern clothing is, (for the most part), simply not designed with the level of attention to detail that women’s clothing was for decades during vintage times, and opening the door to the world of sewing your own clothing can be the most wonderful experience. (There’s a slightly easier and more casual vintage pattern in the works, so do subscribe to our newsletter if you’d like to be notified when it is released!)
Till next time!
